The PRA for AI Workbook Tool
Bridging Theory and Practice
The PRA for AI framework is implemented in a practical Workbook tool (currently available as a structured spreadsheet). This tool guides assessors step-by-step through the risk assessment process, ensuring methodological soundness and consistent documentation.
Workbook Components Overview

An overview of the main components and workflow elements within the PRA for AI Workbook tool.
Key Features
- Guided Workflow: Guides assessors through aspect selection, scenario generation, severity and likelihood analysis, interaction and propagation analysis, and results aggregation (See Figure 3).
- Assessment Maturity Levels (AMLs): Configurable protocols for assessment depth and scope.
- Risk Assessment Entry Log: Place for documenting system information, scenarios, assumptions, evidence, HSL/LL estimates, and rationale.
- Risk Detail Table: Integrates the hazard taxonomy with Plausible Qualifiers to aid scenario ideation and calibration.
- Standardized Rubrics & Tables: Includes HSL and LL definitions, reference examples, and the Risk Level mapping table.
- Analysis Templates: Includes Aspect Interaction Matrix and Propagation Operator tables for analysis (in selected AMLs).
- Automated Outputs: Generates a Risk Report Card summarizing aggregated risk levels alongside focused aggregation views based on systemic risk dimensions, a Tallied Risk Matrix showing scenario distribution, and a detailed Output Log.
Current Status & Development
The workbook tool was initially released in October 2024 as version 0.9.0-alpha and is under active development. The current v0.9.1-alpha release provides a functional foundation for conducting systematic risk assessments. The workbook includes structured support for scanning potential risks through an aspect-oriented taxonomy of AI Hazards, extensive guidance on modelling threats, generating risk scenarios and estimating levels of risk, as well as detailed instructions on documenting each step of the process. Users receive an auto-generated risk report card that presents their aggregate findings, together with an output log—a static version of the entry log that preserves risk scenarios, assumptions, and data for future reference and comparison.
Get the Tool & Guide
The buttons above provide access to a copy of the workbook and a static rendering of the interactive user guide directly from the workbook, with pre-selected settings for the AML-120 team assessment protocol (recommended for a balanced, standard assessment). For more information about assessment settings and other AML protocols, please refer to the complete user guide within the workbook.
